The Anundoram Borooah Institute of Language, Art and Culture, Assam (ABILAC) has set up its extension centre at Bilasipara town in Dhubri district.
An MoU was signed to this effect on January 28 last between ABILAC and Prachin Bhasha Sanskriti Gaveshana Kendra. The Bilasipara extension centre of ABILAC would be known as the Prachin Bhasha Sanskriti Gaveshana Kendra, Bilasipara (PBSGKB), an extension centre of ABILAC.
It will carry out research and other academic activities on the language and culture of Assam, particularly those of lower Assam, stated a press release received today.
The MoU was signed by PBSGKB president Ashok Singhi and ABILAC director Professor Dilip Kumar Kalita in a brief meeting chaired by Singhi, who is also the local MLA, at the Bilasipara premises of PBSGKB. It was attended by a significant number of intellectuals, educationists and litterateurs of the area.
While explaining the objectives of the meeting, PBSGKB secretary Debojit Chakravarty exuded the hope that with ?ABILAC’s assistance, the Gaveshana Kendra would be able to achieve its objectives.
Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dilip Kumar Kalita stated that the centre will facilitate research and academic activities on the language and culture of lower Assam. ?For the purpose, it would engage scholars hailing from this part. He stated that ABILAC will look after the academic and administrative activities of the Kendra, while its management and property would rest with the local committee.
He also announced that ABILAC would help the Kendra in establishing a worthy library for the benefit of the scholars and students of erstwhile Goalpara in particular and lower Assam in general, to carry out research on culture, language, folklore, etc. For the purpose, ABILAC handed over 86 of its publications to the Kendra.
Ashok Singhi recounted the events which had led to the establishment of the PBSGKB, describing it as a dream child of the former Chief Minister, late Sarat Chandra Sinha. He expressed the hope that this Kendra would be able to cater to the needs of the scholars and students of lower Assam and uplift the academic scenario of this part of the State.
